The 100-page full colour coffee table journal is the work of two of the schoolâs Diaspora based alumnae, Vanessa Patrick-Johnson and Marcia Kirton, who were virtually nominated for the assignment based on their writings and photography about the centenary activities posted on Facebook.
Johnson is an experienced communications professional. She is currently the Communications Director of Phoenix Communications, a business she started after many years in the corporate world. Vanessa is also a writer and avid reader. Vanessa, based in Almeria, The Netherlands, is of the class of 1982. Kirton, of the class of 1980, is is a certified IT Project Manager, currently employed in a financial institution in the United States. She is passionate about photography and her talent is unquestionable.
A release from Johnson and Kirton said the journal was a labour of love that was produced in a few short months, despite both of them living on two different continents: Europe and North America. They used Skype, Facebook and e-mails to communicate and share ideas and content.
In addition to the St Vincent based activities, the journal also includes photographs from 100th anniversary commemorative activities held by the GHS Alumnae in New York and Toronto.
Whilst the journal is primarily an endeavour of Kirton and Johnson, Patrick Abbott, Kamara Alleyne, Marcelle Burgin, Patrice Daisley-Shongo, Shelley John and Clare Keizer also contributed photographs.
Only 100 copies of the hardcover journal, which will be sold at a price of $100, have been printed. The book will go on sale this Thursday, May 10, at the schoolâs anniversary lecture, which will take place at Frenches House from 8:00 p.m.
