Barker, who was on the island since last Wednesday on auditing duties, left here Sunday, and although he has not submitted a final report on the Lions Clubs of SVG, the review on the Clubs has been positive.
âYou donât have any difficulties down here. These clubs down here are strong, they are working hard and they are carrying; out their mandate.
âThere are no real problems with St Vincent and the Grenadines. All is well,â the District Governor told SEARCHLIGHT.
Explaining his purpose of the visit here, Barker disclosed that it is the duty of the District Governor to carry out an Audit on the 61 clubs in the district.
This, according to him, is to ensure that clubs here are performing according to the dictates of the international body.
âThe Lionisim is an international association. It is not West Indian, Caribbean, American or English. It is an international organization which has its headquarters in Illinois in the United States, so we have a set program.
âThe District Governor has the job of editing each and every club in the district. We sit with each club and go through the plans and programs and we ask them a lot of questions â¦â he explained.
When asked if a club does not meet the auditing standards what action would be taken, Barker explained that there is no punishment or penalties, but instead the clubs would be advised on the outlined areas that need improving.
âWhen I am auditing there are a number of questions that I ask and, according to the answer I get, I will see whether they are following the correct procedures, and if they are not, we will advise them,â he added.
Auditing is done on an annual basis throughout the 61 district clubs throughout the Eastern Caribbean, of which St Vincent and the Grenadines is a part.
Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) was founded in 1968 and to date there are said to be over 1.5 million Lions and Leo club members throughout the World.
