No more private vehicles at ‘Little Tokyo’

Private Vehicles will no longer be allowed to park in the Kingstown Bus Terminal, popularly known as “Little Tokyo”.{{more}}

Yesterday, Monday, July 18, 2011, private vehicles parked on the southern side of the bus terminal, formerly the Leeward Bus terminal, were asked to move and police officers were stationed at the terminal to instruct vehicles that they were not allowed to park at the terminal.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Kenneth John told SEARCHLIGHT that buses will now be able to use that part of terminal, thereby reducing the congestion of buses at the entrance of the terminal. He added that this was one of the problems identified in a meeting of the Omnibus Association and the Commissioner of Police Keith Miller last week.

John explained that the buses travelling to Georgetown, Stubbs, Mesopotamia, Richland Park and Greiggs will occupy the southern area of the terminal. He added that officers will be at the terminal to instruct drivers on the correct procedure.

“We are not going out there to prosecute persons,” John said, adding that officers will instruct drivers on what is expected of them.(OS)
