Bequia Reading Club winners to receive prizes

The winners in the second Bequia Reading Club Schools Reading Competition will be rewarded with gifts, trophies and certificates in a prize giving ceremony, scheduled for June 5, 2011, at the Fig Tree Restaurant in Bequia, commencing at 2:00 p.m.{{more}}

Children in three age categories will receive gifts, trophies and certificates on Sunday as follows: In the 7 to 8 year old age group, first place Gabriella Gurley of the Bequia SDA Primary School, second place Krishanna Lewis from the Beqia Angliucan Primary School, and third place winner Janiah Ollivierre of the Paget Farm Government School.

In the 9 to 10 year old group, first place winner, Melodie Hercules of the Bequia Anglican Primary, second place winner, Tamara Woodley of the Paradise Primary School, and third place winner Sharayah John, of the SDA Primary School.

In the 11 to 12 year group, Delanna Leonard of the Bequia Anglican Primary School, second place winner Loulanna Bynoe of the Bequia Community High and third place winner Kenella Stowe of the Paget Farm Government School.

All schools and children who took part in the exercise will be awarded certificates of participation. All the other participants in the competition: Roella Bynoe, Kisma Belmar, Ebony Arrindel and Spencer Nero will also receive gifts.

At Sunday’s prize giving ceremony, Shane Cole, a teen student of the Community College, will speak on the Topic: “How does the Family Impact on Students’ Education and the Child’s Role In His/Her Own Education. The event will also hear remarks from Anton Jardine representing GECCU, which, for the second year will provide junior savers accounts as gifts for the winners. Herman Belmar, Deputy Director of Grenadines Affairs, and Parliamentary Representative for the Northern Grenadines Dr. Godwin Friday will also bring remarks at Sunday’s event.

There will be live pan music, poetry, drama, dance by La Gracia Dance Company, games and more.
