Little’s installing a strong foundation in the children

The decisions you make today can affect your future.

Conscious of this fact, Felicia Little, a citizen of the United States, is currently working with pre-schoolers at Little Learner Pre-School, Arnos Vale,{{more}} on an art programme entitled ‘Children helping Children’.

“I am trying to show the children that crime is not the way to go,” Little explained, adding that the essence of the project is to allow children to use their creative talent.

Little, a trained educator, has been coming to this country for many years, accompanied by her husband Christopher Blackman.

In fact, she said it was while on vacation here in 2007 that she was inspired to join the Obama campaign.

When she returned to the US, Little said that she submitted an application, got an interview and was eventually recruited to be part of the campaign.

“It wasn’t easy working for someone who was going to be president of the United States,” she said.

She said she needed to make a lot of sacrifices and that she remained focused on the task ahead, two elements that she hopes to pass on to the students.

She said that she had to leave her beloved spouse behind, as her new job required her to travel all across the US, organizing events and conducting door-to-door visits for the campaign.

She said that the experience has inspired her to write a book, in which she explains to the readers the importance of making the right decisions.

Little said that she has collaborated with Trinidadian artist Makemba Kunle, and it is hoped that the pieces of artwork, which will be on display, would eventually be purchased.

All proceeds will go towards the improvement of the school’s resources, said Little.

She said that she intends to return to the US, where she will be continuing the work, taking children from one stage to the next.
