Conserve water, say NUSS Young Leaders

Water is a fundamental resource that supports all life on the planet. Though two thirds (2/3) of the earth’s surface is covered by water, only 25 percent is fresh water and less than one percent (1%) is available for human consumption.{{more}} As alarming as these figures may sound, this 1 percent of water is slowly being reduced as man’s modification of the environment continues to take toll. Due to this restricted access to fresh water, steps must be taken to preserve our water resources.

It is with this in mind that we the Young Leaders of the North Union Secondary School adopt “Conservation” as our tool to counteracting this situation in which we now find ourselves. It is within our strong conviction that we in St. Vincent and the Grenadines must be proactive- we must take steps now to preserve our water resources to prevent potential environmental and economic crises in the future.

Through our project we hope to:

1. Create awareness of the issue of water scarcity and the impending global water crisis.

2. Promote water conservation methods which can help to address water scarcity.

3. Demonstrate how water can be conserved to drive industries with in our country through the practice of crop irrigation and the construction of a fresh water fish pond at our school.
