The incident resulted in the closure of the airport for two hours.

According to a press release, the United States registered aircraft N515CG was on a flight from J.F Mitchell Airport in Bequia with four persons on board.

The release further stated that it was reported that the aircraft was on what appeared to be a normal landing approach when the landing gear on the right side collapsed, causing the aircraft to tip over.

It subsequently ran off the runway, ending up on the grass strip on the side of the runway.

A team of officials from the Eastern Caribbean Civil Aviation Authority (ECCAA) headed by Chief Investigator Paul Delisle arrived in the state Wednesday, March 23, and the matter is being investigated.

On March 5, an aircraft flying from Margarita Island, Venezuela, crash landed at the Union Island airport after it was reported that the pilot mistook that island for Canouan, the flight’s intended destination. (DD)
