Cooke warned about statements that could land him in trouble

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has suggested that radio broadcaster Ernesto Cooke put a bridle on his tongue.{{more}}

This warning was issued in the wake of last Thursday’s protest, organized by the New Democratic Party, in which Cooke made statements on the airwaves considered by some persons as capable of causing public alarm.

Among the statements he is alleged to have made is that the Government will be introducing a state of emergency.

At a Unity Labour Party (ULP) rally at Barrouallie on Sunday, March 6, Gonsalves said: “I warning Cooky. The fella Ernesto Cooke, he on top the radio station saying things which could get him into trouble. I know that he wouldn’t want to get into trouble, but he has to put a bridle on his tongue.”

“I’ve heard things which he said; he must be careful,” said Gonsalves.

The Prime Minister said an “unfortunate” statement was also made by former Minister of Health under the NDP administration Burton Williams, during a rally held after the protest, that vessels were being brought from Venezuela to quell the demonstration.
