Morris to speak at the next GHS Lecture

The GHS centenary lecture series continues next week with the turn of New York based Narissa Morris, who’ll speak on the topic, “Careers for the 21st century”, on Thursday, March 10, at Frenches House, Kingstown.{{more}}

Morris’ background is strongly rooted in education. As the daughter of two school principals, she started to attend primary school with her parents from age three and entered the St. Vincent Girls’ High School at the tender age of nine. She completed her secondary education at the St. Vincent Grammar School, where she studied foreign languages.

On completing her secondary education, Morris taught briefly at the St. Vincent Grammar School and then worked at the then Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC) in Kingstown. She later worked as a flight attendant with LIAT in Antigua. Morris migrated to the United States in 1981 where she worked full-time and attended college in the evenings with a full course load. She graduated at the top of her class with an Associate degree from New York City Technical College (CUNY) with a 4.0 GPA. She continued her studies at Baruch College (CUNY) and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree magna cum laude and later a Master’s Degree in Accounting. Morris then decided to enter the Brooklyn Law School, where she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. She participated in Moot Court competition and was a quarter-finalist in the National Moot Court Health Law competition in 1997. While at Law School, Morris worked as a contract specialist with the City of New York, Dept. of Information Technology & Telecommunications.

While at Law School, she was recruited by the international consulting firm of Deloitte & Touche, and upon graduating in 1997 went to work there as a tax attorney in its real properties department. She researched complex legal issues facing clients and produced findings with possible solutions among other duties. Today, Morris has her own law practice, with offices in Queens County, New York. Morris was an adjunct lecturer at New York City College of Technology (CUNY) from 1999 to 2007 where she taught business courses in the evenings.

Morris serves on several professional committees and is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Friends of Crown Heights Educational Centers in New York City. She’s also the Vice President of the New York Chapter of the Girls’ High School Alumnae Association.
