The St. Joseph’s Convent Kingstown Past Students Association celebrated its first anniversary with a Church Service, held at the Kingstown Catholic Cathedral on February 19, 2011, which was well attended by a large number of past students.{{more}}

As a young organization, arising in February 2010, the association has embarked on fund-raising events, with one of their major objectives being the restoration of the bathroom at the School.

The Association has made presentations of nineteen Subject Awards at the April 28, 2010 Graduation and hopes to do the same in 2011. As part of their fund-raising activities, the association hosted a BBQ and recently hosted a historical event – Past Students’ Cocktail at the School’s Compound with Sister Maureen Alexander, as she graced St. Vincent one more time after being principal of the school for some 15 years. They also hosted a local food sale on Independence Day, which they are determined to make an annual event.

The association is about to launch a mentoring program called the “Adopt a Little Sister Program”. This aims to match some present students with a Big Sister (past student), who will act as a mentor throughout the student’s school life. Application forms have already been provided and a ceremony to commemorate this event will be taking place within the next school term. The parents of the present students and Big Sisters will be presented with adoption certificates. Past Students wishing to be part of this programme may still submit applications, but are asked to do so before the next school term.

Other events to mark the first anniversary include a lecture by a Guest Speaker, at the school hall, on Wednesday, February 23, at 4:30 pm and a Family Picnic at Rawacou Pond on Saturday, February 26, at 9:30 a.m.

The association will also be part of the St Joseph’s Day Celebration to be held on March 18, 2011, at the Kingstown Catholic Cathedral, at 9 am and the 5th Form Retreat on Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

The Association is taking this opportunity to extend an invitation to ALL Past Students of the St Joseph’s Convent Kingstown to be a part of these activities.

The executive is led by President Chevonne Stewart and includes Vice-President – Emma Iroha-Jackson, Secretary – Laverne Phillips, Treasurer – Michelle Mothely and PRO – Kay-Ann Chance.
