Fun Fest winners receive their rewards

Soon to be recording artiste, Janet Jackson, made the latest step to realizing her dream, when she signed on the dotted line of a $10, 000, three record deal.{{more}}

Jackson’s contract, which was signed with MegaWatts studio, will see the Layou resident recording three albums, following her victory in the singing category of the just concluded SVG Fun Fest event.

The 19-year-old gospel singer, Nofiesha James and Alvin Collins, who placed second and third, respectively, along with other winners and sponsors were all recognized with trophies, medals, cheques and plaques, at an award ceremony on Friday, February 4, at the Peace Memorial Hall, Kingstown.

Apart from the contract, Jackson received a trophy for placing first along with a cheque valued $1,500, while James, who inked a one-year, one-album deal received a $500 prize and a trophy, and Collins took home $300 with a trophy and his six-month, one-album record deal.

The other winners awarded at the event were the Crossover Dancers, who received medals and a cheque for $1,500 for their efforts.

The organizers, which included radio personality Colin Graham and his partner Garth Ryan among others, also recognized the input of the sponsors of the event, which was lauded as a huge success.

Carib Beer, Caribbean Tires, E-Zone, Digicel along with Star FM were given tokens for their contribution to the weekly event which spanned St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Representatives of the sponsors present, including Donald Jack of Carib, Sehon Marshall of Star FM and a representative of Caribbean Tires, congratulated the organizers for the effort, stating that they were quite impressed with the way the event was executed as well as the talent of many Vincentians who participated in the events.

Jack also gave kudos to the participants in the local Carib Girl search, noting that the talent displayed here was just as good or even better than those overseas.

Eight of the nine finalists in the Carib Girl search will represent the brand at Carib-sponsored events for the upcoming year.

The sponsors said that they would more than likely be a part of any future Fun Fest events.

The event ran from September last year and culminated on December 31, 2010.
