On Friday, November 19, the Canash Beach Apartments came alive when Digicel officially launched their Christmas promotions dubbed, “Once upon a Digicel Christmas Promotion”.

The launch also featured a fashion show, with beautiful models sashaying in some of the latest trends in fashion at the poolside from Kimmystic Clo.- a clothing line by former Miss SVG Kimon Baptiste.

The show also featured designs from Pat Blackman, a guest designer from Barbados. Blackman presented a number of designs, ranging from ball gowns and a segment paying homage to Africa.

This year, patrons will have the oppotunity to win up to $100,000 in cash and electronic gadgets.

From November 19 up until January 31, 2011, Vincentians who top up their prepaid phones with EC$20 or more, persons who purchase a handset or postpaid customers who pay their bill in full and on time will be entered in a draw, not only for weekly prizes but for a grand prize.

Every top up of EC$20 or more earns a prepaid customer a chance in the draw, while a postpaid customer earns a chance for each EC$20 paid towards their monthly bill, provided that the entire amount due for that month is paid in full, on or before the due date (in other words if you pay EC$100 on your post-paid bill, you will be given 5 entries to the raffle). Persons who purchase handsets get one entry in the draw.

A random draw will choose five persons (whether postpaid or prepaid), who on Friday, February 4, 2011, at Heritage Square in Kingstown will be given the opportunity to enter a cash vault machine to see how much money they can grab in 30 seconds.

The vault will blow cash through the air and persons will be given a Digicel apron in which they will place the money which they are able to grab from the air.

The machine will contain EC$80,000 and the five finalists, one at a time, will be given 30 seconds to grab as much Digicel cash as possible; the finalists will receive the amount they grab actual cash in the form of an Eastern Caribbean Dollars cheque on a date to be determined by Digicel.

Adding some more spice to the launch, five tried their luck at winning a chance to enter the cash vault by telling their own Digicel Christmas story, while trying to depict what was taking place on the large screen at the poolside.

Richard Beadle, Sheldon Wood and Ricky Adams were adjudged as the best three story tellers and were entered into the cash vault. Each man had the chance to win game consoles, electronics, cash and the new Blackberry Torch.

Speaking at the launch, Digicel’s Country Manager, Sonia Polius said the theme of this year’s promotion is featured around a story book theme for the customers.

Polius told a story of her own about a little, red, cellular phone company that came into in the Caribbean, bringing with it, affordable handsets and communications for all. She added that as time went by, the people came to expect more from the phone company and kept on getting more.

She said as the company grew, the “big bad monopoly” was on the sideline, creating stumbling blocks at every turn. Polius said the company was not intimidated, because it was built on ideas, vision and caring for people.

She thanked customers for their patronage over the years and invited those not part of the Digicel family to join the “Bigger, Better, Network”.

For their coverage of Digicel over the past year, media personnel present were presented with tokens of appreciation and also awarded with brand new Blackberry 9100 smartphones (KW).
