Union not associated with any Party – SVGTU

The heads of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers Union (SVGTU) have declared that the Union is not and will not be associated with any political party.{{more}}

This announcement was made in the wake of the announcement of December 13, 2010, as the date for General Elections here.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, November 15, 2010, at the SVGTU headquarters, PRO Vibert Lampkin stated that the Union “remains and will continue to remain a non partisan organization.”

Lampkin said that over the years, the Union has been labeled in “one way or the other” but that they have been very deliberate in ensuring that they are not associated with any political party.

Lampkin added that the Union’s purpose is to serve its members. “We are not here to serve the interest of any political party or government. Our position is to serve the interests of the teachers of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.”

Lampkin stated that they are ready to work with any government, as long as the relationship seeks to benefit the teachers of SVG.

He further disassociated the Union from any political activities for the remainder of the campaign season.

Endorsing Lampkin’s statements, President of the SVGTU Ronald Clarke said that the Union has been labeled and accused of being pro government and anti government. He added that the Union represents teachers who support either political party, but

the Union, however, will remain non partisan. (OS)
