UWI Open Campus staff holds retreat

The UWI Open Campus St Vincent staff took the time off at a retreat on Friday, October 8, at the Anglican Pastoral Centre to come up with ideas to address the critical needs of the Open Campus and to improve its functionality.{{more}}

This was part the staff’s initiative to re-group and develop plans for the upcoming two years.

Head of the UWI Open Campus, Dr Adrian Fraser, said since the higher learning institution became an Open Campus the staff in St Vincent was now better able to utilize some of their own initiatives to make more significant changes without much consultation.

Dr Fraser noted that with the realization of the increase in fees for the students, the UWI Open Campus St Vincent staff was also looking into ways that they could improve the facility for the students.

He also stated that the retreat helped the staff to make honest evaluations, and gave them the opportunity to search for ways to implement work plans.

Issues such as the renovation of the kitchen, library and toilet facilities as well as the conference room were some of the pressing matters on the agenda. The need to also have more courses and to have more trained artisans, particularly in the areas of plumbing, computers and masonry, was also examined.

The move to have suggestion boxes on the site to have more students input was also one of the means of getting candid feedback from the students.
