Junior ‘Soca’ Jones honoured in New York

Junior ‘Soca’ Jones, this country’s longest serving promoter in the diaspora, was recently honoured in a gala luncheon in New York City hosted by Vincentian-American Independent National Charities Inc. (VINCI).{{more}} Making the presentation was president of VINCI, Gabriel Bonadie, after Jones’ promotional biography was read by Master of Ceremonies Don Bobb.

Speaking to a packed banquet hall of over 400 Vincentians, Jones expressed his appreciation to VINCI for the award, and also to the people of the Vincentian community who have continued to support his events and projects over the years. Present at the Joneses table along with his brother, sister, aunt and daughter were: The Rolls Royce of calypso – Winston Soso and Deputy Consul General Cyril ‘Scorcher’ Thomas, both of whom took to the stage and sang in tribute to Soca Jones. Also in attendence were band leader of the band Solid, Nolan Bulze, Edson Arrington, and many other well-wishers and friends.

Patrons at the $90 a plate function widely expressed their satisfaction with the choice of Soca Jones for this year’s honouree. Ruby Wood of Square Deal Shippers stated: “If ever there was a perfect choice,this is it”. Junior ‘Soca” Jones has for years been tirelessly promoting the music, culture and nation of St.Vincent and the Grenadines. Jones is also among New York’s most popular radio personalities, where his emphasis is again the promotion of SVG.

In concluding his acceptance speech Jones stated “St.Vincent and the Grenadines is my heart and soul and as long as my Vincentian people continue to support, I will continue to promote”.
