Vincentians will eat grass if ULP is re-elected – Eustace

Vincentians will “eat grass” if the Unity Labour Party (ULP) gets a third term in office, says Arnhim Eustace, President of the New Democratic Party (NDP).{{more}}

Eustace, who is also the Leader of the Opposition, is of the view that the Government of St.Vincent and the Grenadines is broke and is unable to pay for basic things.

On Thursday, September 23, at a public meeting held by the NDP at Green Hill, Eustace said although black sigatoka, moko and leaf spot diseases are present here, the spray plane has not been spraying banana fields across the country on a regular basis.

This, he concludes, is because Government has no money to purchase fuel for the plane or the necessary chemicals.

“Sometimes the chemical come in town and they can’t transport it out. So what is happening is that the banana farmers, now through Fair Trade, they have to pay to transport the fuel up and pay also for the chemicals out of their money.

“That is not fair, that is a government responsibility,” said Eustace, noting that because “Gonsalves has mash up this place,” they have no money pay.

He said the Fair Trade has just agreed to provide $300,000 to purchase the chemicals needed to spray the fields, but this should be paid by the government.

Eustace said the government is also unable to pay the Agricultural extension staff their travelling allowance for going out to the fields. This cost he stated is now being paid by Fair Trade.

“This is a broken government, a government without money. And they expect to continue to get a third term in office in this country? They can’t be serious. They can’t be serious about a third term in this country,” said Eustace.

“If they receive a third term, all of us will eat grass. You hear what I tell you? If they get a third term in this country, all of us in St.Vincent and the Grenadines will eat grass,” said Eustace.

Eustace spent most of his presentation encouraging supporters to remove Gonsalves from office. He added that there are a number of things which the Prime Minister has done that has caused great hardship to Vincentians.

He warned that if the NDP succeeds in forming government, an investigation will be carried out and anyone found guilty of wrong doing will be sent to the new penitentiary at Belle Isle.(HN)
