Sion Hill Bay gets clean up

Last Saturday, Sion Hill Bay received a facelift when members of the Lazarus Foundation spearheaded a clean up of the area.

The foundation is one of several groups that are making efforts to rid this country’s coastline of debris and other hazards.

After a few hours, the Sion Hill Bay area was free of styrofoam, plastic bottles and bags, dried bush, glass ware and other unwanted items.{{more}}

The collection saw 10 bags of garbage removed and the data collected.

The Sion Hill effort was one of 20 such undertakings islandwide as part of the 25th International Coastal Clean Up, which is a global initiative supported by the US based Ocean Conversancy.

The St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ chapter is being co-ordinated by JEMS Progressive Organisation, the Community Development Division in the Ministry of National Mobilisation and the Environmental Management Department of the Ministry of Health and the Environment.

The three week exercise should see other Vincentian community organizations continue the efforts this Saturday, September 25 and October 2.
