Stubbs man stabbed to death

The John families of Stubbs and Victoria Village were thrown into a state of shock last week Thursday afternoon after receiving news of the stabbing death of their loved one, Emil John, on the Grenadine isle of Canouan.{{more}}

Reports claim that the 30-year-old who was born in Barbados but grew up in St.Vincent and the Grenadines, died on his way to the Canouan Health Centre after receiving a stab with a knife to the left side of his neck during a domestic dispute.

His girlfriend, Nicole De Roche, who originates from Mesopotamia, but also lives on Canouan, is assisting the police with their investigations.

Emil, the father of a 10-year-old daughter, plied his trade as a landscaper on Canouan.

On Sunday, June 27, when SEARCHLIGHT visited Emil’s elder brother, Dave John, the young man expressed that he was still in a state of shock.

He said he was at the Little Tokyo Bus Terminal about 4:30 p.m on Thursday, June 24, when he received the news of his brother’s fatal injury.

“When I heard he got stabbed I think it was robbery,” said Dave, noting that he was even more shocked when he learnt that this was not the case.

“At first I didn’t believe,” said Dave, lamenting that prior to receiving the telephone call about his brother’s demise, someone had called him to inform about the death of one of his cousins.

“Just as I was going to call my sister the phone rang and I heard my sister crying. I was astonished,” said the grief stricken man.

Sharon John, a police officer by profession, told SEARCHLIGHT at her home, “I’m really sad. I am shocked.”

Sharon noted that she had a very close relationship with her brother, who spent almost four years in the British Army, before returning to St.Vincent and the Grenadines.

She said it was painful looking at her brother’s body at the morgue, knowing that he was someone who was full of life.

Emil, a former student of the St.Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua, will be laid to rest on Sunday, July 4, 2010.
