OAS funds projects valued US$130,000

The OAS has approved funding for three projects, with an estimated value of over US$130,000.

The approval of the projects was done at an official signing over ceremony at the Ministry of Agriculture conference room on Friday June 11, 2010.{{more}}

The projects are the “Development and the Strengthening of Agro-Tourism Linkages” which will be executed by the Ministry of Agriculture. That project will cost US$ 53, 990. The project “Empowering Caregivers for the Roving Caregivers” Programme in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be executed by the Roving Caregivers with a grant of US$12,200. The final project “Capacity Strengthening for Community Management of Resources for Sustainable Development” will be executed by Projects Promotions Limited. It will cost US$65, 680.

During the ceremony, remarks were made by representatives of each project, who extended gratitude to the the OAS for funding the projects. Judith Hull Ballah of the Roving Caregivers expressed that the OAS has assisted the RCG in attaining toys for the young children engaged in their programme.

Managing Director of Projects Promotions Limited Cecil Ryan, also extended gratitude to the OAS, indicating that they are in the process of managing waste disposal in several communities and providing over six hundred garbage bins to be placed in communities to assist in waste disposal.

The ceremony also included remarks from OAS St. Vincent and the Grenadines Representative Melene Glynn, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andreas Wickham and Director of Planning in the Central Planning Division Laura Anthony-Browne.

The Financing for the projects are provided by the OAS Special Multilateral Fund for Integral Development (FEMCIDI). FEMCIDI was established in 1997 and has funded over 1,100 project through the Americas at a cost of US$115 million.
