North American standard dialing for LIME fixed line customers

LIME, this country’s leading telecommunications provider, has advised the NTRC that its NGN fixed line customers will commence North American standard dialing effective June 1, 2010.{{more}}

North American Standard dialing involves the change from 01 to 1 for international dialing to the North American Numbering Plan countries of United States of America and Canada and from 0+ dialing to 011 for the Rest of the World (non-World zone 1) countries. Following this change, LIME’s dialing plan for calls to World Zone 1 and non-World Zone 1 countries will be consistent with section 5.5 of the National Numbering Plan.

LIME’s customers will be given a 60-day window minimum time period, expected to end on July 31, 2010, during which time dual dialing will be allowed, and thereafter only the new dialing pattern will be allowed.

General Manager Angus Steele said in a release that LIME is conforming to international telecommunication standards.
“With the implementation of Next Generation Network (NGN), the system allows for us to move seamlessly to the North American standard dialing. NGN has the ability to offer customers the standard feature codes that are also consistent with North American standards like *69 for Automatic recall and *66 for Automatic Call Back,” said Steele.

With NGN, the terminal equipment is installed closer to the customers home, thereby giving customers a better quality service and a faster deployment for broadband.
