In a bid to attract more awareness and nominations for the local competition, as well as in an effort to produce another regional winner, the caravan of employees, accompanied by a sound system, worked their way along the Windward coast reaching as far as Sandy Bay, and on their way back to Kingstown, journeyed through the Lowmans Windward, Lauders, Greiggs and Marriaqua areas.

Local Coordinator of the Unsung Heroes program, Aliethea Jackson, indicated that a number of nominations have already been submitted, but said she is confident that as the June 30 deadline draws near, the record 45 submissions made last year will be surpassed because of the greater area covered.

Persons are nominated for the contributions made in their communities, with the local winner rewarded with a US $6000 cash prize to go toward their cause. If they are judged the regional Unsung Hero, they receive an additional US $7,500.

Jackson indicated that nomination forms are available at the Halifax Street branch or on their website at www.firstcaribbeanbank.com.

Last year, Mayreau resident, John Roache, won both the local and regional competition, repeating the 2008 feat of Veolant Cupid, of Lauders.

The local committee is hoping to make it three in a row on the regional scene.

To date, St. Vincent and the Grenadines has won the regional title three times and has fielded runners up on two occasions.
