The Workshop was facilitated by Wilfred Jarvis from the Forestry Training Centre in Georgetown, Guyana, and was funded by the European Union (EU) through the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

Speaking at the opening of the Workshop held on April 26, 2010, at the Forestry’s Conference Room, Director of Forestry Brian Johnson said that the project which is called “Environment Watershed Protection and Forest Based Livelihoods Project seeks to improve the forest management of plantation, reduce wastage and also increase revenue generating possibilities.”

Johnson said he hopes that the participants would seize the opportunity to improve their skills in the use of the chainsaw and the felling of trees. The Workshop covers both theory and practical aspects.
