The one-day training workshop will be hosted at the Open Campus facility of the University of the West Indies (UWI) in Kingstown.

The event is being coordinated by the ACM’s Focal Point in SVG, Theresa Daniel. It is the latest in a series of similar training exercises undertaken so far in Guyana, St Kitts and Nevis, Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago, based on the ACM’s Election Handbook for Caribbean Journalists published in 2009 and which has also been launched in Jamaica and Grenada.

The training team includes ACM President, Wesley Gibbings, and senior Caribbean journalists Lennox Grant and Raoul Pantin. Gibbings and Grant are editors of the Election Handbook. Supervisor of Elections of St Vincent and the Grenadines, Sylvia Findlay, will also lead sessions at the workshop. The National Lotteries Authority, the UWI Open Campus at Richmond Hill, New Montrose Hotel and Aggie’s Restaurant and Bar are providing support to cover the logistics of organising the session.

The programme will be extended to journalists of Suriname on April 29 and 30 in an activity organized by the Union of Surinamese Journalists.

The Handbook can be downloaded from the ACM’s website:
