Bigger and brighter Easterval for 2010

Ranked among the top festival in SVG, Easterval in Union Island embodies the way of life of the natives of this small Island. Started in the late 1960s this event includes a mixture of culture, sports, creativity, rivalry, splendor and flair.{{more}} This year’s festival has undergone some significant changes and improvements. It runs from March 14th-April 5th under the slogan “A unique cultural blend for Easterval 2010”

The official launch of Easterval 2010 takes place on March 14th at the Hugh Mulzac SQ. The event will feature speeches from sponsors and Govt officials, cultural performances, Easterval giveaways and displays, and other novelty activities.

March 27th – Status Fete at Eagles Nest. Persons attending this fete are asked to wear colors to match your relationship status. The slogan for this fete is “What’s your status”.

Sun 28th March – Easterval Beach lime/Cook Out. This event will take the form of a beach cook out Union Island style. There will be lots to eat, including roast fish, peas soup with pigtail; cattle head souse, mutton, bbq chicken, wan goo and much more. The most exciting thing about this event is ALL the food is FREE! It’s a family event; it’s our way of saying thanks to all our supporters and the community as a whole.

Thurs 1st April – Cultural Extravaganza & Panorama. This event energizes the general public and visitors alike as it showcases traditional talents and expressions. Participants for this event mainly come from St.Vincent, Grenada and the Grenadines Islands. Also for the first time in the history of Easterval there will be a Panorama Competition which will feature local pan sides and a quest pan side from one of the neighboring Island.

Fri 2nd April – Fish Festival. This event includes the display and sale of fish cooked in a variety of styles and flavors. (New event)

Netball & Basketball finals will also be featured on this day.

Sat 3rd April – Inter Primary Schools Track & Field Meet – A big part of Easterval 2010. Participants will come from schools out of Canouan, Carriacou, St Vincent, Mustique and Union Island. They will compete for the Champions of Champions trophy. This event is one where we hope to unite the Islands of the Grenadines through sports. (New event)

Sat 3rd April – Miss Easterval Pageant at the Sports Complex. Contestants from Barbados, St Lucia, St Vincent, Carriacou, Grenada, Trinidad and Union Island will vie for the coveted Miss Easterval crown.

Sunday 4th April – Soca fest. This year event will be a showdown between top Soca artiste from St Vincent and Grenada. So far Demus, Mr Killa, Shotpree, Lavaman, Lime Soca- Dans and Mad symphony have been confirmed to appear on this show. However, more artistes will be added to this all-star cast.

Monday 5th April – J’Ouvert Street Parade. The name of this year’s band is Blue Devils.

Monday 5th April- Monday Night Mas. This event carries a Mardi-Gras theme and will see patrons displaying face mask, glow sticks and mugs, t-shirts, and beads. This will be the final activity for Easterval 2010. (New event)
