Three youths who completed Community Projects were recognized as Youth Ambassadors and were also awarded. The person who copped the 1st prize received a laptop, while the second prize winner received a digital camera. Third prize winner received an Ipod.
Chairman of the Organisation, Kenroy Johnson, said the organisation believes it is important to award persons who have contributed significantly to the development of the community. He also believes that persons should be awarded while they are alive. Johnson said the Community Icons are people who have done well without any reward and he refers to them as nation builders. He said the Ceremony is a culmination of a dream.
Johnson said forming the organisation took a lot of hard work and he is proud of the committee for the efforts they put in. He is, however, disappointed with the lack of support from businesses. Johnson said so far they have discovered a range of new talent in the area and plans are already in place for next yearâs activities.
Representative of the Regional and Diaspora Unit (RIDU), Nevlyn Antoine commended the GFDO for leading the process of Community Icons. She noted that one of the roles of RIDU is to recognize Vincentians here and in the Diaspora who have contributed to building national pride. She urged persons to continue to support the Georgetown Festival Committee.
