SVG Medical Association battles Breast Cancer

This year, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Medical Association staged two major events to highlight the need to build awareness about Breast Cancer, which is known to occur in females and males. This disease carries a significant health, social and financial burden on those affected by it.{{more}}

On Friday, October 16,the Medical Association staged the 3rd Annual Pink Cap City Walk as part of this campaign and strengthened it with the formation of a Breast Cancer Awareness (Human) PINK RIBBON in the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Car Park on Sunday October 18,2009.

Both events saw the collaborative participation of members of the SVG Medical Association, the Soroptomists International, the La Gracia Dancers, the Nurses’ Association, the Girl Guide Association, students of the Trinity School of Medicine, the St. Vincent Jaycees, the West Kingstown Women’s Group, and other interested persons. Special photography for these events was provided by Oris Robertson and Shaun Young.

The Medical Association undertook the sale of Pink Caps, Pink Tote Bags, Pink Ribbon Lapel pins and Pink Umbrellas as part of the Association’s fund raising efforts to assist patients who need financial support for cancer treatment at overseas facilities.

The Medical Association thanks its partner organisations, the various authorities and the general public for their support in this important venture.
