St. Joseph’s Convent Marriaqua records good CSEC performance
The St. Josephâs Convent Marriaqua has this year had one of its best performances in the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations since 2005.{{more}}
So says Sister Jacinta Wallace, principal of the Roman Catholic institution.
St. Josephâs Convent, Marriaqua placed fourth overall at the national level among the 26 secondary schools which operate throughout the state. The co-education institution recorded a pass rate of 82 per cent from 604 subject passes.
âI am excited,â said Sister Jacinta Wallace to SEARCHLIGHT when we visited the institution on Tuesday.
âMy perspective on success is not how far you have reached, but how far you have come from,â she expressed, while adding âthe journey, this is what I am particularly proud of this yearâ.
Sister Jacinta disclosed that her school recorded a pass rate of 82.4 per cent, inclusive of the basic students; however, the pass rate at the general level was 83.5 per cent.
The schoolâs top performer is Tamara Browne who wrote 10 subjects and received subject passes in all areas with eight grades ones and two grade twos.
Sister Jacinta is elated that other students performed well and she gave the credit to the teachers.
âI am proud and happy for the teachers,â emphasized the principal who started her teaching career in 1983. She added her school offers much more than academics.
The best performance was attained in Information Technology, with an overall pass rate of 100 per cent. 72 per cent of that class scored grades ones. Sis Jacinta noted that this year that a 100 per cent pass rate was achieved in four subject areas.
According to Sister Jacinta, there was significant improvement in English A, with a 75 per cent pass rate.
âThe vision is in keeping with the Mission Statement: To mould and shape lives so that students will gain all round development so that they will be able to fit in and make a valuable contribution to society,â Sister Jacinta expressed.
She said her school ensures that students participate in community outreach activities, annual outings, extra-curricular activities such as sports, and public speaking competitions.
Sister Jacinta told SEARCHLIGHT that she will be embarking on a mission to ensure that every student at the school who graduates leaves with a skill. (HN)
