The instruments were handed over at a ceremony held at the Campden Park Secondary School.
Earlier this year, the group signed a Memorandum of Understanding with SVGSIF to fund a project dubbed the Questelles Musical Ensemble. SIF provided EC$50,000 to purchase pieces of assorted brass instruments, guitars, keyboards, a drum set, DVDs, CDs and accessories.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, President of the Questelles Community Development Organisation, Ann Jones, said she welcomed the instruments as they would enhance the community steel orchestra and also give the young people âsomething to doâ and would also assist in alleviating poverty.
The instruments would be shared with the students of the Campden Park Secondary School.
SIF was represented at the ceremony by Accountant Jasmine Huggins.
Huggins encouraged the both the students and community members to care the instruments carefully and use them to enhance their musical capabilities.
âI am sure if you apply your skills you can become international renowned musicians and can reach the heights of Syl Mc Intosh and Shake Keene.â
The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Band will be assisting the community with musical instructions.
Commissioner Keith Miller extended his gratitude to SIF for its continued assistance in the development of young people in the country.
He said SIF had been working along with the Ministries of National Security and Culture with the Pan Against Crime programme which has produced a number of new steel bands in St.Vincent and the Grenadines.
