CUT gives Roustan job as President again
Roustan Job of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association (TTUTA) was re-elected President of the Caribbean Union of Teachers at the 34th Biennial Conference held in Grenada July 24-31, 2009. Job overwhelmingly defeated Doran Dickson of the Jamaica Teachers Association (JTA) 95-13 votes for CUTâs top post.{{more}}
Marvin Andall of the Grenada Union of Teachers was returned unopposed to the position of first vice president. On the other hand Karen Best of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) had to beat off a spirited challenge from Belinda Wilson and Juliamae Johnson-Roberts both of the BUT (Bahamas). When the votes were counted, Best obtained 53, Wilson 36 and Johnson-Roberts 16.
Cecil Hodge of the St. Kitts Teachers Union (SKTU) defeated Julian Monrose of the St. Lucia Teachers Union (SLTU) after two rounds of voting for the position of second vice president. The first round ended with both candidates receiving an equal number of votes. In the second round, Hodge overcame Monrose 61- 49.
Other persons elected to the CUT executive committee included Celia Nicholas of the Dominica Association of Teachers (DAT) and Tyrone Molyneuax of the St. Croix Federation of Teachers (SCFT). They will both serve as trustees.
The Caribbean Union of Teachers held its 34th biennial conference in Grenada under the theme: Transforming Todayâs Classroom for Tomorrowâs World. Over 100 delegates representing seventeen teachersâ unions were in attendance. St. Vincent and the Grenadines was represented by a six-person delegation led by acting president Sheldon Govia.
