The presentation ceremony saw Avril Hamilton, who placed third for girls in the recent Common Entrance Exams, and seventh placed boy Kerron Glasgow, accepting their first of five cheques valued EC$1000 per year, in the presence of proud parents, other students and members of the newly elected credit union board.
The book vouchers have a value of EC$100.
Hamilton is slated to attend the Girlsâ High School, while Glasgow will attend the St. Vincent Grammar School.
Tuesdayâs event heard addresses from president of the SVUTCC Cheryl Evans, as well as manager Julian Jack, who congratulated the students and urged them to make the most of the awards and reminded them that the journey has just begun.
The students were also addressed by a former scholarship winner Kareem Thompson, who urged them to remain focused on the work that lay ahead of them.
Evans indicated that the Union was pleased to assist the parents and students with the donations, and pledged that it will continue to grow as it gives goods and services to all.
According to Jack, the Union has been awarding students since 1994, starting with two students receiving scholarships, then later extending to scholarships and bursaries.
He noted that scholarships and bursaries were also available to members moving from secondary to post secondary education, as well as universities.
Jack said that these were part of the Unionâs education drive.(JJ)
