Jeromy, the grandchild of Glenor John and Collin Forde John, speaking to media last Tuesday, thanked the Fair Trade for awarding him the scholarship, adding that it will help him to purchase his schoolbooks. Jeromy will be attending the St. Vincent Grammar School. He placed 20th for boys and 49th overall. Ozay Martin will be attending the Mountain View Adventist Academy; he placed 17th for boys and 42nd overall.
The local Fair Trade organization, which started its scholarship programme in 2004, has given over nine secondary school scholarships to date. They also give tertiary scholarships to students. Scholarships are given to students who are children or grandchildren of Fair trade farmers and who have excelled in the Common Entrance Examinations. The secondary school scholarships continue to the tertiary level. In addition to the scholarships given this year, six students were also awarded tokens of $200 each to assist in their preparation for secondary school.(OS)
