According to a police report, Arica went into the water, encountered difficulties and disappeared under water. The body was subsequently recovered and taken to the Chateaubelair Health Centre. Eye witnesses in Chateaubelair told Searchlight that Aricaâs distraught mother ran out of the Chateaubelair hospital screaming âMy baby! My baby! I need my miracle nowâ.
Freelance journalist Adrian Codogan who was at the scene said, âI tried to console her, but she grabbed my hand and began to run telling me to take her to the nearest Bible believing church. I showed her the Methodist church, but she said that sheâd rather go to the Pentecostal. After showing her the way, I returned to the hospital.
Arica became the third victim to drown at Cumberland Bay in the last eight months. Last December, Danroy âDandymanâ Delpesche, a 44-year-old fisherman disappeared after capsizing while riding a surf board. On May 31st Lambert âMurphyâ Griffith, 36 of Spring Village also drowned at Cumberland.
Cumberland is a haven for yachts, both large and small. There is a river at the bay which divides the beach. The water is generally calm, as it is a sheltered bay.
