Pioneers in Nation-building re-published
KINGS-SVG Publishers has announced the republication of âPioneers in Nation-building in a Caribbean Mini-Stateâ by Sir Rupert John with a new Foreword (a biography of Sir Rupert) by Karl John.{{more}}
The new edition is edited by Baldwin King, Cheryl L. A. King and Karl John. The original book was published in 1979 by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
In the preface to the original edition, Sir Rupert stated that the book was âan attempt to consider in one small volume the lives of twenty-two Vincentians and the contributions they made during the earlier years of the twentieth century to the political, economic, social or cultural development of their native landâ. The individuals profiled were George McIntosh, Herbert A. Davis, Ebenezer Duncan, Alfred C. DeBique, Benjamin N. Bacchus, James R. Cato, Thomas W. Clarke, Christopher W. Prescod, Darnley E. Williams, Robert M. Anderson, Joseph B. Bonadie, James E. Sprott, Owen D. Brisbane, Walter M. Grant, Joseph M. Gray, Alexander M. Fraser, Donald C. McIntosh, Arnold M. Punnett, Simon S. Garrett, James A. Providence, Henry Crichton and Robert T. Samuel.

Meanwhile, KINGS-SVG Publishers is seeking authors to contribute to an edited volume on unsung/sung heroes/heroines in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
The volume welcomes articles on individuals who have made significant contributions to Vincentian society in all spheres of activity, whether they have lived in SVG or in the diaspora. Approximately twenty persons (living or dead) drawn from the various fields of medicine, science, engineering, politics, the teaching profession, civil service, agriculture, the arts, law, community service, etc will be profiled.
According to a release from the publishers, a particular author may submit multiple contributions. The book is a follow up on Sir Rupert Johnâs seminal contribution âPioneers in Nation-building in a Caribbean Mini-stateâ.
The articles should run between 4,000 – 6000 words (10 – 15 pages) and should be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word (font 10, Times New Roman) to: kingba@aol.com. Articles would be reviewed by a panel of editors and upon acceptance, KINGS-SVG Publishers will pay the authors US$10/1000 words (or the equivalent of two copies of the book) for their contribution which will become the copyright of KINGS-SVG Publishers.
