Gideon George received two stab wounds to his left side, damage to his eyes and what is believed to be a dislocated right shoulder (the results of x-rays were not ready at press time) after an encounter with two of his common law wifeâs relatives.
Georgeâs common law wife Patricia Maloney suffered a bite under her left eye and damage to her left hand, during the attack, which they swear was unprovoked.
According to them, the incident stems from a dispute that has been brewing for months over the care of Maloneyâs elderly mother.
Maloney told SEARCHLIGHT that a few months ago she moved her mother out of her upper Richland Park home and took her in to live with her.
âShe has a leg problem, and no one was taking care for her,â she said.
This move did not sit well with two relatives, who she said repeatedly issued threats to her.
The relatives, according to Maloney, issued threats while they were overseas and since they returned to St Vincent.
Several reports have been made to the Mesopotamia Police Station about these threats.
George told SEARCHLIGHT that he isnât convinced that enough was done by the police about these threats of bodily harm that were issued against Maloney.
The verbal bashing allegedly escalated to serious physical violence at around 8:30am on July 6.
George said that he and Maloney were coming from Montreal Mountain, where they were taking care of their animals when one of the relatives blocked the path of his car.
The relative then reportedly started cursing Maloney and George said that while in the past he had stayed out of what he termed âa family affairâ, he broke his silence and told the relative to behave because âall of you are oneâ.
George claims that it is at this point that another relative came from the side of the vehicle and dragged him out of his car and started beating him.
George claims that the man then shouted for someone in his nearby yard to bring a cutlass and when it was brought to him, the man began firing chops.
Meanwhile Maloney was wrestling with the other relative, who had got a knife from a nearby yard and was attempting to join the attack against George.
At the end of the melee, George was left unconscious with his injuries, lucky to be alive.
George and Maloney are now concerned for their lives and at press time were supposed to carry their medical reports to the police.
They told SEARCHLIGHT that they hope that the men who attacked them will be promptly arrested and charged because they fear for their lives.
