Police still not charged
Close to a month has passed since the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP) advised that charges be brought against the four police officers involved in an incident involving 15-year-old Jemark Jackson, but charges have not yet been laid.{{more}}
Another publication reported last week that DPP Williams had given the order, and this week when SEARCHLIGHT followed up with DPP Williams, he said, âAs far as I know they have not been charged.â
In the SEARCHLIGHT of December 5th, 2008, we reported the claim by young Jackson that Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers used excessive force against him and another youngster on the night of Monday, November 17th 2008.
The youngster claims that he was beaten with a hose and was lifted up and slammed on the ground, and was kicked in his belly and chest by officers.
DPP Williams told SEARCHLIGHT that much more could not be said on the matter by him, but confirmed that his recommendation to charge the police officers still stands.
Meanwhile, lawyer for young Jackson, Jomo Thomas said that he is watching to see what the Commissioner of Police will do.
Thomas said that if by the end of the month nothing changes, he will âcall for a particular action.â
He said that he was not ready to say what it was, but reiterated that he is not giving up on getting justice for his young client.
SEARCHLIGHT attempted to reach COP Miller late on Wednesday night for a comment but was unsuccessful. (KJ)
