The course included topics relating to: Customs legislation, valuation and tariff classification, anti-money laundering, risk management and processing passengers and goods, all geared towards emphasizing core areas of customs and re-establishing standards.
Comptroller of Customs and Excise, Grenville John, speaking at the closing ceremony, held at the National Insurance Services Training Room, implored the officers to take the training they received and put it into practice as soon as possible. John further stressed the need for professionalism at all times and in all aspects of the job. âYou must adapt policies and processes that will foster professionalism, integrity with the department. We have given you the most important tools to perform your duties efficiently and effectively within the customs environment,â John said.
Meanwhile, feature speaker, Director of Planning Laura Anthony-Browne, reinforced Johnâs message to be professional and always have a positive attitude in carrying out their duties. âBe meticulous in your job, surround yourself with positive people and have respect for authority,â Anthony-Browne beseeched.
Anthony-Browne also urged the senior customs officers to help the juniors to employ positive work attitudes and the courage to take on tasks that may seem daunting.
Deputy Comptroller, Samuel Thomas, also shared brief remarks at the closing ceremony.
