Methalyn Job, School Counsellor and coordinator of the day’s event, outlined that the aim of the Career Day was to enlighten students about the vast number of career opportunities available to them, to sensitise them to the world of work and to some of the jobs that are presently available on our local job market. By so doing students will be able to prepare themselves for future careers by choosing the appropriate areas of study here at the secondary level and later at the tertiary level.

The day’s activity began with an opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m: It was chaired by teacher of English, Earl Cruickshank. The opening prayer was done by Pastor Verrol Blake, and a short exhortation based on the theme was given by Pastor Noel Clarke. Special gospel songs were rendered by visiting evangelists Terrance Baynes and Marvin Harrison from Trinidad and Tobago. The acting Deputy Principal Dennis Jardine, in the absence of acting Principal, Aldia Gumbs-Dyer, gave the Welcome and Introductory remarks. The students and staff as well as the invited principals and counsellors from several of the neighbouring primary and secondary schools received a stirring address from Carlton Hall, Senior Education Officer with responsibility for secondary schools. The Vote of thanks was given by Form Prefect Kelvia Isaacs.

During the course of the day, several interesting and informative career presentations were made by persons from both the private and public sectors. These included Jean Johnny-Findlay from the fashion industry and business sector; Green House Gardener Gideon Nash from Nature Care; Martin Quashie, Dramatist from the Ministry of Culture; Montgomery Dyer, Businessman from the Furniture Industry; Sheila Robertson and Sharon Hadaway, Lecturers in the area of Hospitality at the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College; Conroy Dyer, Artist and Art teacher at the Thomas Saunders Secondary School, and Personnel from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard and the Fisheries Division. The day’s activities were described as very successful, and met the overall objectives of the (ag) principal, staff and students of the school.
