The South Central Windward community wrested the title from Rose Bank on the Leeward side, which came in third this time around, with the Sion Hill Intersection taking the second spot.

President of the New Grounds Lighting Committee Jason Villaroel said the win, which is the third for the community, was one that was expected. New Grounds had won in 2004 & 2006. Villaroel said that after six days of work and finally turning on the lights, he and the other committee members felt that they had a winning chance.

The New Grounds community, which has been lighting up for the past nine years, took the Zone 3 title of the national competition, with Sion Hill Intersection winning Zone two, Rose Bank won Zone one, Park Hill coming out on top in Zone four and Sunny Gutter, Bequia topping Zone five.

Other VINLEC sponsored competition winners were Olivia Da Silva, of Cane End, winning the best lit private house category, and the Cane Hall Roundabout was adjudged the Best Lit Garden. The town of Layou was named the National Lotteries Authority’s best Nine Mornings Community. (JJ)
