Everything else will come to a halt as the customary thousands are expected to throng the venue, not only to see the lights, but to be part of the concert and the inaugural Christmas Song Contest.

The official ceremony, which begins at 8 pm, will hear brief addresses from Chairman of the Lighting Committee, Leroy LLewelyn, and Minister of Culture Hon. Rene Baptiste.

A fireworks display has been added as the community celebrates a decade of lighting.

The honour of turning on the switch this year has been given to Hubert Carrington, a senior citizen of the community.

There will also be the honouring of businesses and persons who have contributed to the Sion Hill lighting over the past ten years.

The four to be presented with awards of appreciation are George Frederick, of British American Insurance Co. Ltd., Bottlers St. Vincent Limited, Karib Cable, and Brian “Paper” Alexander.

The newly introduced Song Contest will hear performances from Rolly Bowman, Skarpyon, Sweet Sixteen, Tracy Browne, Lady D, Michael Johnson, Pat Ralph, Azzarah, Snuffy, Hero, and Defoe, backed by the band Access.

The cultural package, which will sandwich the Song Contest, will have a host of guest artistes.

Among them are X-Pan, KLT Dancers, Avenues Dancers, Rasum, Man CP, Lennox Bowman, the Sion Hill Government School Drama Group, New Generation Gospel Band with Fidel Taylor, Sandrine Bristol, Octavia Richards, New Life Ambassadors, and renowned Saxophonist, Syl Mc Intosh.

The night’s MC’s are Maurice Horne and Lexie.

This year’s theme is “Fun, Talent and Creativity, Ten years of Lighting the Sion Hill Community”.
