In the September edition of Soroptomist International magazine, the efforts of local farmers Gideon Gilbert and Elmina Bobb were highlighted, along with their association to the Windward Islands Farmers Association (WINFA) which promotes the sale of Fairtrade products.

The article details how Gilbert of the Marriaqua area and Bobb from Georgetown and other producers around the world are benefitting from Fairtrade certification, which assists in securing the farmers’ and their families’ livelihood.

According to the magazine, the Soroptomist clubs worldwide have been working over the years to encourage more and more consumers to choose Fairtrade products.

They have organized and been part of steering committees that are geared towards giving their communities Fairtrade status.
