After a number of years of taking home individual awards, the Campden Park Secondary School finally took the top honors by winning the 2008 LIME sponsored Secondary Schools’ Drama Festival.{{more}}

The school got the judges’ nod for their presentation of ‘Tomfoolery’, beating out the other 11 schools that took part in the November 12 to 21 competition, which took place at the Peace Memorial Hall in Kingstown.

At Wednesday’s awards ceremony, the school performed the piece that was first presented more that 15 years ago by the Organization for the Development of Drama (ODD).

The nine member cast did justice to the play, much to the delight of the Hall, showing why they came out ahead of the other productions.

The CPSS also took home awards for a number of off stage contributions, including best directing; a task performed by Sandra Providence and David Jackson, who wrote the script, best stage management, best make up, production and costume.

The major individual awards were, however, out of the schools’ grasp.

Heckford Woodley, of the Emmanuel High School Mesopotamia, was awarded the best lead actor title, and Adelphi Secondary School student Limohra Jacobs was adjudged the best lead actress.

The Bishop’s College Kingstown took the best supporting actor and actress titles, through Kevorn King and Jasmyra Tash.

Jacobs also gained the judges nod for the highly coveted dramatist of the Festival trophy.

Teachers involved in the production of this year’s plays also performed a well received skit for the entertainment of the students and other officials present at Wednesday’s ceremony.

Schools that failed to participate in this year’s Festival were urged to get their ‘acts’ together for the 2009 season by head of drama in the Ministry of Culture, Martin Quashie. (JJ)
