The Prime Minister made the announcement at the House of Assembly last week Thursday.

Cuba has been hit by three hurricanes this year, the last hurricane destroying over eight thousand houses.

Prime Minister Gonsalves said that the Cuban Government has said that the country has received an estimated US$10 billion worth of damage.

Additionally, the Prime Minister called on the Ministry of Education to launch a programme in all learning institutions, where students could donate one dollar to the relief effort in Cuba and in Haiti, which was also devastated by hurricanes this year.

The proposed programme for the schools is called ‘Dollar for Cuba/Haiti’.

The Prime Minister also stated that the government is working through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to find out what St. Vincent and the Grenadines as a country can do to assist Haiti.
