Vincy designer wins awards in Nassau

Vincentian designer Tamiko Browne, of Tammy B Designs, emerged victorious at the “Islands of the World Fashion Week”, with her swimsuit collection, capturing both the NextGen Designer and the Culture & Fashion Awards.{{more}}

The “Islands of the World Fashion Week”, which was held in Nassau, Bahamas, from 4th November, saw 38 designers from 12 island states presenting. They were judged in various categories, including: the Sustainable Eco-Fashion Award, the Culture & Fashion Award, the NextGen Designer Award, and the Seals of Excellence.

The guest list included celebrity judges Nole Marin, of America’s Next Top Model, renowned international designer Peter Nygard, Susan Stein, Nick Verreos, of NIKOLAKI, and Alphadi.

Six other local designers of fashion and jewelry: Lisa Cordice, of Pochelle, Karen DeFreitas, of Soka, Kimya Glasgow, of Kimya Glasgow Designs, Debbie Barbour, of Deb E Barbour Designs, Kimmon Baptiste, of Kimistics, and Ingrid John, of Natural Beats, also took part in the event. The designers’ participation was made possible by The National Investment Promotion Inc, in collaboration with the Centre for Enterprise Development.

Islands of the World Fashion Week consisted of 21 catwalk shows at the historic British Colonial Hilton, while the Opening and Closing receptions took place at the Atlantis Resort, Paradise Island. The event was endorsed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to highlight and promote cultural diversity and dialogue, and draw attention to global issues such as the environment and climate change, the education of youth in HIV/AIDS, and poverty alleviation.
