No major damage at Bottom Town

Always on the alert for rough waves such as the ones that beat the south and western coastline late Wednesday night and throughout Thursday morning, fishermen in the Rose Place (Bottom town) area were able to save most of their vessels from destruction.{{more}}

According to one resident of the area, an alarm went up about the waves last night, bringing fishermen and other residents out to the beach, pulling a number of the pirogues to safety.

Unfortunately, a few boats were not spared the wrath of Hurricane Omar; according to the resident, one boat was lost at sea while others were seen on shore overcome by the elements.

The biggest relief however, was that the shacks and houses located on the beach itself were untouched.

Some years ago, a similar storm surge destroyed the dwelling places on the beach front.
