Thieves make off with cash register
An early morning heist left a leading Chateaubelair business short of its cash register and about $200 in coins.
Last Saturday, June 14, when the manager and workers of the Grafton Audain and Company mini mart showed up for work, they found the cash desk ransacked and the cash register missing. {{more}} The register was installed last year after the Value Added Tax system was implemented and cost just over $7,000. The thieves left the keyboard, scanner, printer and monitor on the desk with their connection wires hanging.
The culprits apparently entered the building through a side door to the back of the building as the workers found the locks missing. A neighbour speaking on the condition of anonymity told SEARCHLIGHT that around 3:00 a.m. the alarms in the building went off. Although the building has security cameras they were apparently off at the time of the burglary.
Two years ago the adjacent Shell gas station office was broken into and the cash register was also taken. No arrest has been made and the police are still investigating.
