Sugar Mill takes 8 out of 9
The proud students, staff and parents of the Sugar Mill Academy of Ratho Mill are still savoring the sweet success of their students who copped eight out of nine prizes in last Mondayâs Fishermanâs Day Primary Schoolsâ Poster Competition.{{more}}
In the Kindergarten category Alejandro Tesorero, Joshua Marks and Maia Tolentino took the top positions in that order, while Kasie Graham, Vaughn Russell and Rasheem Gellizeau took the top three positions respectively in the Grade one to three category. In the Grade four to six category Ashanti Best was first, Adam Ballantyne, second, while Devon Latham of the Colonarie Primary School took the third position.
Principal of Sugar Mill Academy Liz Cordice told SEARCHLIGHT that they have instituted an arts programme where all the students are exposed to the different artistic disciplines. Well known artist Caroline Sardine visits the school once a week to teach the Visual Arts. Cordice also said that her school has huge respect for the environment, and this year they are concentrating on learning about the oceans and marine conservation. âWe didnât give much supervision on the poster project, we just give then some guidelines and let them be creativeâ, she said.
In the Secondary Schoolâs category, Vakeesha John and Vatalie Ceasar of the Girlsâ High school took first and second place in that order, while Jairon Homer of the St Josephâs Convent Marriaqua took third place.
In the essay competition Kristel Thom of the St Josephâs Convent Marriaqua, Dane Brown of the St Vincent Boysâ Grammar School and Vakeesha John of the Girlsâ High School took the three top positions respectively.
The poster and essay competitions were sponsored by St Hill Insurance Co. Ltd, and in addition to the prizes and trophies the winners will get a sea tour in a glass bottom boat courtesy Indigo Dive. (AC)
