âYou think that we are going to invest nearly $60 million in any airport…this government doesnât intend to build a quality airport and have a management which is sub-quality,â Dr Gonsalves said during the opening ceremony for the Canouan Airport last Sunday.
Dr Gonsalves said that the airport will be managed by the Glossy Bay Marine Company Limited, a joint venture company between the government and the Canouan Resorts Development (CRD) Group of Companies.
The company, which, among other things will develop a Marina on the southern end of the island for which the specific drawings and plans will be released by yearâs end, and will be entrusted with the management of the airport.
Dr Gonsalves explained that while many may cry out for local management, he wasnât prepared to have second class management for the sake of going local.
âAirport management is a specialty. It is a matter which you have to study and do in accordance with international standards,â he said.
During his address at the Canouan airport opening, Antonio Saladino of CRD said that it is important that the new airport be run, maintained, and managed to run like a Swiss watch.
âToday we join together to proudly inaugurate the first and only jet port in the state, and from tomorrow, it must continue to be recognized as the very best, first class facility, on this first class, luxury destination,â Saladino said during his address last Sunday. (KJ)
