Last Tuesday, Gary Thomas, a Geography teacher at the school, donated the intercom system as part of his practicum for a BEd in Educational Administration at the University of the West Indies (UWI).
Thomas said the project involved the installation of an intercom master control panel in the headmasterâs office and speakers in a number of classrooms. He said the system offers two-way communication and can cover up to 75 rooms. Thomas believes that the intercom is one that âcan grow along with the St Vincent Grammar Schoolâ.
He explained that the system is capable of ringing the school bell and sending music programmes throughout the school. He said that he is hoping to develop a radio club in the school. This announcement was well received by the boys present.
Thomas noted that the system will allow the administration of the school âto monitor and supervise classroom instructionâ. He believes that the school will put the intercom to good use and thanked everyone who contributed to the programme.
Headmaster of the Grammar School Frank Jones said the system will improve communication in the school as it now makes it possible for him to sit in his office and communicate with 800 persons at the click of a switch.
Jones said that the programme will be âutilize(d) only for the benefit and upliftment of the SVGSâ. (VM)
