As Western Union forges forward in the Vincentian market, one thing that is certain is that the company will certainly improve its involvement in the community.{{more}}

This was the assurance given by Vice President with responsibility for Marketing Product Development of Grace Kennedy’s Money Services division, Noel Greenland.

Greenland spoke to SEARCHLIGHT at the appreciation cocktail held for local Western Union agents last Saturday, April 19th, at Grenadine House.

Greenland said that plans are already afoot for Western Union to get involved in a particular aspect of national life. He, however, stated that it was too early to reveal this promotional direction.

“We are looking forward to getting more involved in the social, community lives of our people here in St Vincent and the Grenadines,” Greenland said, adding “We know we have been lacking, but I could assure you that that will change.”

When he addressed the gathering of local Western Union sub-agents, Greenland said that as Caribbean people continue to move more, Western Union must facilitate this movement, as remittance is a crucial part of this movement.

Vice President of Operations Michelle Allen also addressed the agents and expressed Grace Kennedy’s appreciation of the work they are doing. She said that the company is determined to, among other things, maintain operational excellence.

Agents were also given a sneak peak into the various advertising concepts that the company will use this year by Marketing Manager for the Eastern Caribbean, Kerrian Johnson.

The agents were presented with tokens of appreciation, and treated to soothing steel pan music by Potential Steel Orchestra.

Grace Kennedy is one of the Caribbean’s largest corporate entities. The company started in Jamaica in 1922, and has expanded and diversified over the years, changing from a privately-owned enterprise to a public company listed on the stock exchanges of Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean.

Today, the Grace Kennedy Group comprises a varied network of some 60 subsidiaries and associated companies located across the Caribbean and in North and Central America and the United Kingdom.(KJ)
