SVGNA of New York donates 40 beds to the MCMH

Health officials at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital were all smiles last week Wednesday, with the handing over of forty beds donated by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Nurses Association of New York.{{more}}

The beds, which have been primarily allocated to the main hospital in Kingstown, were considered a welcome gift by Hospital Administrator Fitz Jones, who accepted them on behalf of the hospital.

Jones said that donations of this kind make it possible to allocate their limited local resources to other areas of need.

He thanked the association, which is made up mainly of nurses who had been trained in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, before migrating to the United States of America.

Speaking on behalf of the Association was Advira Providence, a retired nurse who has since returned home.

She indicated that the Association was happy to give back to the local health system, since most of the overseas nurses were trained here.

Providence said that her organization is always willing to help and fill any gaps where possible.

The Association, which has been around for over 15 years, and has more than fifty members, has made donations of beds and other medical supplies over the years.(JJ)
